Heartbreak in Denton: North Crowley Completes Thrilling 28-27 Comeback Over Guyer: DENTON, TX โ The defending state champions showed their pedigree Friday night, but not before being pushed to the brink. The North Crowley Panthers overcame a 13-point second-half deficit to complete a thrilling 28-27 road comeback victory over the Denton Guyer Wildcats, extending the Panthers' remarkable winning streak to 19 games. The highly-anticipated non-district matchup, played at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex, was a classic back-and-forth thriller that came down to the final seconds. Wildcat Speed vs. Panther Power North Crowley jumped out early, with quarterback Demarcus Harris connecting on a 53-yard touchdown pass to sophomore standout Damarion Mays on the second play of the game. Guyer immediately responded on the ground, as star running back Kaedyn Cobbs broke free for a 47-yard touchdown run, signaling this would be a long night for both defenses. Guyer's speed began to take control late in the second quarter. Kicker Andrew Johnson drilled a field goal to give the Wildcats a slim lead, which they extended to 20-14 at halftime on a quarterback keeper by Carter Morgan and a second field goal. Guyer Lands the Uppercut The Wildcats looked poised to blow the game open immediately after the break. Defensive back Aiden Martens caught the ensuing kickoff and raced 96 yards for a touchdown, stretching the Guyer lead to a commanding 27-14. However, the Panthers, known for their relentless late-game surge, refused to surrender. North Crowleyโs Gritty Comeback The Panther defense tightened up, and their offense shifted into gear. A short touchdown run by Jayden Shawn cut the deficit to 27-21 midway through the third. Then, with just 50 seconds left in the quarter, running back G'yrell Smith powered in from short yardage to give North Crowley the lead back, 28-27, after a good extra point. The fourth quarter was a tense defensive struggle. Guyer's offense, despite strong running from Cobbs, was held scoreless. The Wildcats drove near the red zone but turned the ball over on downs. Late in the game, the Panthers' running game and clutch defense, including a critical late-game sack by Amaj Mitchell, killed the clock and preserved the nail-biting one-point victory. North Crowley (3-0) survived their toughest test yet to remain undefeated, while Denton Guyer (1-2) showed they are a dangerous contender despite the heartbreaking loss.
