Guyer (9-3) went into the contest looking to build on its momentum after beating McKinney last week in Round 1 of the playoffs, and the Wildcats were able to do just that against Pearce (9-3). Guyer advances to play the winner of Saturday’s game between Midland (8-3) and Crowley (7-4) in next week’s regional semifinal round of the 6A Division II playoffs. The Wildcats earned that chance behind big nights offensively from senior quarterback Kevin Sperry and junior athlete Kaedyn Cobbs. Sperry, who flipped his college commitment from Oklahoma to Florida State on Thursday, was prolific using both his legs and his arm to make plays. He threw for 111 passing yards to go along with one passing touchdown, while also tying with Cobbs for the Wildcats’ top rushing tally by amassing 152 yards and three touchdowns on just 13 carries.
